Our little Jack Russel, J.R. (thanks for the dorky name, dad!) has always suffered from itchy, dry skin, while at the same time having a very oily coat (go figure). The main issue is that his skin agitates him, so I decided to put together a super moisturising dog shampoo which would hopefully help to soothe it for him, and I think it turned out pretty well!
J.R. hasn’t been scratching half as much since I bathed him with this shampoo, and the vinegar included has really nutrilised his usually strong ‘dog’ smell. However, if your dog has normal to oily skin and fur, I probably would go easy on the moisturising elements (rosemary water and coconut oil) as using it on Peppa (our spaniel with normal, long fur) made her fur appear slightly greesy with all the extra moisture, though this has subsided in the days after washing.
If you’d like to give it a go, I have loaded up all the ingredients and directions here. Let us know how it goes in the comments, and if you have any suggested improvements to the formula!
